Periodontal Therapy

PERIODONTAL THERAPY

If you’ve developed periodontitis, also known as gum disease, periodontal therapy is an umbrella term used to describe different treatments that you may need to undergo.  These treatments are an important part of restoring health to your teeth and gums, as well as preventing tooth loss.  We offer the following periodontal therapy services in our office:

Scaling and root planing.  Also known as a deep cleaning, scaling and root planing is a non-surgical procedure used to treat periodontal disease.  The hygienist will use specialized tools, and remove plaque and tartar below the gum line.

Periodontal maintenance. For patients who have periodontal disease, we recommend having a periodontal cleaning every 3 months, as this is the estimated time for bacteria to reproduce and affect the teeth and gums.  This cleaning is similiar to a regular dental cleaning procedure, however, it requires additional cleaning of the periodontal pockets from tartar and build up, which can take extra time.
